Meridian Speedway
Meridian is famous for art museums, historic artifacts, discovery centers, mountains, and parks. But there is more to this amazing city that started as a small suburb of Boise. Meridian Speedway is an asphalt track that hosts motorsport races on weekends in the west of Meridian. Idaho is a city of enthusiastic youngsters passionate about cars and racing. The outdoor space consisting of multiple tracks of dirt and asphalt makes a dreamland for race lovers.
Meridian Speedway was inaugurated in 1951 and has been hosting successful racing events for more than 70 years. The motorcar racing arena is owned by locals of Idaho, Al Russel, and Adam Nelson who have deep connections with elites of the racing industry. This enabled them to operate Meridian Speedway successfully, arranging high-profile events almost every week.
The asphalt track of quarter mile length is best-suited for auto racing of many types. Drag cars, open seaters, rally, and drag cars take part in races. Sometimes old vintage models come on track to attract the attention of classic car lovers. Modified cars make a great show as well by thrilling the crowd with supersonic speeds. Local-level car racing events are organized throughout the year in this thrilling bullring for racers.
Meridian Speedway has given Idaho racing fans the perfect chance to see their hometown idols compete for titles in the weekly edition. These weekend races are organized since the center is a member of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. The track takes pride in hosting the ARCA Menards Series West, the greatest event in the racing world from 2015 to 2019. Unfortunately, the track was closed during the pandemic years but the owners are looking to bring back the event to their hometown.
Dust road lies outside the asphalt track behind the backstretch, and the infield is narrow and vacant with just a little area of grassland. One of the most recognizable buildings in the Treasure Valley is the 134-foot-tall, yellow Meridian Water Tower. Every resident of Meridian is familiar with it and the symbol of it is visible on the trophies awarded to the winners.
The weekly races are scheduled on Saturday at 6:30 pm but motorsport lovers start flooding the gates when the gate opens at 4 pm.
The asphalt track of Meridian Speedway is historic since it is the same track on which Hailie Deegan won her maiden NASCAR race, making her the second woman to do the feat. This platform gave her the flight that resulted in Hailie’s outstanding performance in the 2018 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
Legends of the racing world like Ray Elder (winner of six K&N West races), Todd Gilliland, Noah Gragson, John Dillon, and Ron Eaton have visited Meridian Speedway to entertain the crowd in their respective eras.
The roars of the modifiers are still not enough to suppress the cheering of the crowd from the stands. The seating capacity of about 10,000 people makes a high-charge atmosphere every weekend with people waiting impatiently for the clock to strike at 6:30 pm.
