Video: Should I paint my kitchen before selling my house?
Should I paint my kitchen before selling it? The number one thing that you can do when Prepping your home for sale is to paint and the number one place to spend that money is in the kitchen. I can give you multiple examples of clients where they have looked at nearly identical homes, and they have told me that one is fully upgraded and the other one is not, and that’s a big difference in their mind. White color is the best color for painting a kitchen.
The difference to the tune of anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000, depending on the type of home. So the kitchen is really the focal point and that’s where people go to almost immediately when they come in the home. I just sold a home here in San Diego that, with painting the kitchen, walls, and new flooring yielded this client approximately $250,000 more than if they had sold the home in it’s original, 1970’s era condition.
And if it looks clean and fresh, that’s going to be a huge selling point for your home. So if you’re going to spend money anywhere, spend it in the kitchen and especially on painting of the home.
Then from there you can kind of roll out to the other areas of the home, repainting, the interior walls, especially any dark accent walls. Go ahead and put a fresh coat of paint to lighten those up, but ideally, let’s repaint the entire interior of the home with a nice, white paint and create a blank canvas for the new buyer coming in.
Then finally, moving to the exterior, painting any faded, peeling, or chipped paint and pressure washing the home is going to make the home just shine when someone walks up to it. So painting is a fantastic way to get your home ready to sell and it’s the best money spent when you’re prepping for sale to get top dollar
